Man Critically Injured in Suspected Road Rage Stabbing at The Gap Intersection

A man remains in hospital in a critical condition after being stabbed during what police suspect may have been a road rage incident at a busy intersection in The Gap on Tuesday evening.

Emergency services rushed to the corner of Chaprowe Road and Settlement Road around 7:30pm on December 9 following reports that a motorist had been attacked.

The victim, a man aged in his 40s, sustained serious stab wounds to his arm and leg during the confrontation. Paramedics treated him at the scene before transporting him to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, where he remains in a life-threatening condition.

The alleged attacker fled the scene in a black Nissan X-Trail immediately following the incident, according to Queensland Police.

Investigators are currently exploring multiple possibilities as they work to piece together what led to the violent altercation. Road rage is among the potential motives being examined as detectives continue their enquiries.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information about the driver of the black Nissan X-Trail to come forward. Dashcam footage from motorists travelling through the intersection around the time of the attack could prove crucial to the investigation.

The incident has shocked the local community in The Gap, a western suburb known for its family-friendly atmosphere and quiet streets.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Queensland Police or Crime Stoppers.

Serious Charges for Newmarket Man After Initial Pickering Street Incident

A routine police patrol in the early hours of Monday morning has resulted in serious charges for a 43-year-old Newmarket man, following what began as a simple bicycle helmet violation on Pickering Street.

Officers from the Ferny Grove property crime team were conducting their regular patrols around 1.45am when they spotted the man cycling without a helmet. What caught their attention wasn’t just the missing safety gear, but the unusual sight of what appeared to be a cash register drawer sticking out of his backpack.

Upon stopping the cyclist, police discovered a concerning collection of items that painted a troubling picture. Inside the register drawer, officers found money, along with an additional bundle of cash. The man’s backpack also contained what police describe as classic burglary tools – a hammer, wire cutters, gloves, torch and a glass pipe.

Adding to the suspicions, the cyclist couldn’t provide any proof of ownership for the Giant Trance bicycle he was riding, nor could he give police a reasonable explanation for how he’d acquired it.

The investigation quickly expanded beyond the initial traffic stop. Police allege the man had broken into a nearby local business using the tools found in his possession, before making his escape on what they believe to be a stolen bicycle.

The charges now facing the Newmarket resident reflect the seriousness of the alleged crimes. He has been charged with entering premises and committing an indictable offence by break and enter, possessing items intended for use in breaking and entering, unlawful possession of suspected stolen property, and possessing drug utensils.

The man was refused bail and remanded in custody, with his case set to appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 30 July.

For Enoggera residents and business owners, this incident serves as a reminder that police patrols continue around the clock, even for seemingly minor infractions that can sometimes uncover more serious criminal activity.

Man Charged with Murder of Mother After The Gap Stabbing

In what police describe as “one of the worst crime scenes” they’ve encountered, a 40-year-old man has been charged with the domestic violence murder of his elderly mother in The Gap.

Mother Found with Fatal Stab Wounds

Cecilia Webb, 79, was discovered unresponsive in the front yard of her Chestnut Place home shortly before 4:30pm on Monday. Despite emergency services being called to the property, she was declared dead at the scene with what Detective Acting Inspector Michael Jones described as “quite horrific” injuries.

“She was stabbed multiple times,” Inspector Jones said. “I’ve been an investigator for over 20 years, and it was one of the worst crime scenes I’ve seen.”

Police allege Ms. Webb was attacked with a Japanese cooking knife that her son had recently purchased, and that she suffered defensive wounds while trying to protect herself.

Alexander Clive Webb, 40, a Victorian resident born in London, was arrested by Australian Federal Police at Brisbane International Airport Monday evening. Dramatic footage released by police shows officers pinning Webb to the ground outside the international terminal, with his hands appearing bandaged and bloody as he was taken into custody.

According to police, Webb had purchased a ticket to Tokyo after the alleged murder.

“It was booked after the incident had occurred,” Inspector Jones confirmed, adding that investigators were unaware of any connections Webb might have to Tokyo.

Aftermath of the Attack

Following the alleged stabbing, police say Webb sought first aid at a nearby residence for an injury to his hand before going to another property where he “washed himself down” with a garden hose. Local resident Brian Say told reporters he had unknowingly hosed away blood from his concrete driveway, thinking children had cut themselves.

Webb allegedly then took an Uber to an address in South Brisbane, followed by a second Uber to the airport.

Community in Shock

Neighbours described Ms. Webb as a kind woman who had lost her husband about 18 months ago. She was often seen gardening and had been receiving support from community members who helped with shopping and yard work.

“Everyone was kind of rallying around her in the street,” said neighbour Ross Parker. “I didn’t believe it, that it could happen in this neighbourhood in particular… to happen to such a lovely lady, it just didn’t make any sense.”

The incident sparked a major police operation throughout The Gap, including helicopter searches and dog squad deployment.

Court Proceedings

Webb made no appearance at his brief court mention in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Tuesday. The case has been adjourned until April 22. Police say Webb refused to be interviewed by detectives.

Inspector Jones has appealed for anyone with information relating to Cecilia Webb or her son to come forward as investigations continue.
